Job summary

A regional emergency service provider is seeking an Advanced Practitioner to join their clinical workforce. Job description

The Northwest Ambulance Service (NWAS) is expanding its clinical workforce by introducing a new Advanced Practitioner role open to suitably experienced Nurses and Paramedics.

The post offers an exciting opportunity for motivated Paramedics and Nurses to be involved in the Trust's new delivery model. The role involves rotating between the Clinical Hub, providing telephone triage to NWAS patients, and responding from designated NWAS sites to patients who can be treated at home. Responding will be in a non-emergency vehicle.

The post holder will be an experienced Paramedic or Nurse, operating within professional boundaries, providing enhanced clinical decision-making to support care pathways for lower acuity patients through telephone consultation and face-to-face assessments. You will ensure excellent patient care, work autonomously, and support patients in the community. The role includes undertaking research and development activities, supporting underpinning knowledge, and offers the opportunity to achieve a Level 7 Advanced Clinical Practice module if not already held. Guidance and mentorship to peers will also be part of the role.

NWAS provides 24/7 emergency services, including life-saving community care, hospital transportation, non-emergency patient transport, and NHS 111 services in the North West. The service also collaborates with other emergency services to ensure public safety and patient treatment during major incidents.

The selection process includes:

  1. Systems Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) during the week commencing 02 September 2025.
  2. Interviews during the week commencing 08 September 2025.

Who can apply?

The role is open to Paramedics and Nurses with HCPC or NMC registration, meeting the job description and person specification. It is not suitable for NQP Paramedics or newly qualified nurses. Candidates should have a DipHE/FDg in nursing or paramedic sciences or an equivalent healthcare qualification.

Role operation:

The role supports clinical decision-making through telephone consultation and face-to-face assessments, working in a solo capacity in response vehicles. Training in telephone triage will be provided. Practitioners will not respond to emergencies under blue light conditions.
