Job summary

InHealth is seeking an Advanced Practitioner in Mammography to join the Guildford team at The Jarvis Breast Centre. You will perform diagnostic mammography within NHSBSP standards and contribute to teaching and mentoring of radiography staff.

The role requires a full UK driving licence for site travel to mobile screening units. You will work 37.5 hours per week from Monday to Friday, with a support network across Surrey's mobile and static units, delivering high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Experience in mammography interpretation and interventional breast imaging.
• Ability to teach, supervise and mentor postgraduate radiographers.
• Participation in departmental quality assurance and governance.

Responsibilities

• Undertake NHSBSP-standard screening mammograms including interventional procedures.
• Assist in teaching and mentoring radiography staff.
• Participate in Quality Assurance and reporting within national/local protocols.
• Perform stereotactic biopsy, localisations and clip insertions as required.
• Maintain confidentiality and provide high-quality patient care.

As part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP), we invite women aged 50 to 70 to attend routine mammograms every three years. Our team works from a static unit at The Jarvis Breast Centre in Guildford, as well as five mobile units across Surrey.

You will work as a mammographer and advanced practitioner, taking part in a rota to work at The Jarvis Centre and our fleet of 5 mobile screening vans across Surrey. You must be a driver with a full UK driving license, willing to commute to any of our sites at least 3 days per week as required.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• To undertake screening mammograms to the standard of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme, (NHSBSP), including those required during Interventional Breast Imaging.
  To assist in the teaching, supervising and mentoring of Post Graduate Radiographers and Associate practitioners undertaking mammography training.
  To participate in the departmental Quality Assurance Programme, ensuring compliance at all times.
  To be a clinical specialist in stereotactic guided interventional procedures including diagnostic biopsy, excision biopsy AND/OR Participate in NHSBSP film reading / reporting in accordance with national and local protocols.
  Exercises expert and highly specialist individual skills through the observation and interpretation of clinical data, requiring extensive clinical knowledge and a high degree of concentration.
  The postholder is expected to respect the right of confidentiality of all patients, visitors and staff in the organisation.
  Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of disease processes within their scope of advanced practitioner and effectively communicate this knowledge to others.
  As a stereographer - To have knowledge and practical experience of using drugs and medicines specific to the role of an advanced practitioner, and to work within the recognised governance structure when administering them. To include knowledge of recognition and management of all reactions.
  To demonstrate the advanced and autonomous clinical practice in all aspects of breast imaging and diagnosis.
  To work professionally alongside a multi-disciplinary team.
  To provide and facilitate a high level of patient care, providing outstanding service quality for patients presenting with, at risk of, or diagnosed with a breast pathology.
  Stereographers must be able to ascertain verbal and written consent for patients undergoing interventional procedures.
  To exercise expert clinical judgements routinely, representing the patient’s best interests throughout their diagnostic care pathway.
  To be accountable for performing, diagnosing or reporting of complex diagnostic procedures within breast imaging.
  To accurately and independently recognise normal and abnormal breast pathology across imaging modalities.
  To provide clear and rationalised evidence-based advice to colleagues, when there may be a range of clinical options available.
  To support consultant colleagues in MDT meetings, including preparation of results.
  To double report breast screening mammograms, achieving the national requirement of 5000 cases per year AND/OR to possess the clinical skill to perform a range of interventional procedures across imaging modalities, these include but are not restricted or limited to:
  a. Stereotactic core biopsy and localisations.
  b. Vacuum assisted biopsy/excisions.
  c. Clip insertion.

• X-ray Guided Interventional Breast Procedures

Please note, the successful candidate will be supported with another advance practice clinical module in the future to support their development and career progression.
