About The Role

Working Hours: 35 Hours per week

Contract Type: Full time / Temporary (24 Months)

Additional Payments: Essential car user allowance / £5,000 market rate supplement

We have a Special Guardianship Senior Social Work Post available in the Kinship Service. This is a 2-year position for a Senior Practitioner, focusing on developing our Special Guardianship Support offer. The post holder will be responsible for developing the support offer and working with families and partners to increase the number of children achieving permanence via a Special Guardianship Order.

This role is subject to:

  1. 2 References - where possible, 3 years' employment history.
  2. Social Work Qualification and registration with Social Work England.
  3. This post is a designated Essential Car User. You must hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for work. You will receive the Essential Car User Allowance.
  4. The post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointees will need to apply for a DBS check. Information will be handled confidentially and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders, available upon request.

About the Candidate

We’re seeking individuals who can provide effective, professional social work to kinship carers, aiming to improve lives. You’ll lead and co-work on our Special Guardianship Offer and support your colleagues’ development within the team.

As an Advanced Practitioner, you will:
  • Identify ways to improve the service and support Manchester's Children to be safe and thrive
  • Develop the support offer for Special Guardians in Manchester
  • Lead staff awareness and best practices in this area
  • Support the Kinship and Children's Teams to achieve our joint ambitions for kinship families
  • Lead work with the ASGSF, Family Hubs, and Fostering Hives model of support
  • Undertake effective work with children, kinship families, colleagues, partner agencies, and legal departments
  • Contribute to tracking and increasing the number of granted Special Guardianship Orders
  • Understand the law and family justice system through ongoing research
  • Undertake Special Guardianship assessments and Support Plans, demonstrating effective analysis, decision-making, planning, and review
  • Role model the 'Our Manchester' behaviours
