Job description

Job summary: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term contract for 9 months with a possible extension to 12 months, with the opportunity to do something different and upskill for surgical services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Dietitian to join our friendly and dynamic team at NMUH. The Dietetic Department is part of the Therapies group (Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech & Language Therapists). We are the first Nutrition & Dietetic Department in London to commence seven day services.

You will be required to liaise closely and effectively with the multidisciplinary team members to provide an excellent service. You should have excellent communication skills, be effective in multidisciplinary team working and be able to deliver both group education and individual interventions.

Main duties of the job
  • Cover specialist Surgical inpatients at the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust
  • Explore provision of outpatient specialist Surgical clinics for continuation of patient care within workload capacity
  • Take the lead role for the development and provision of education programmes for patients and staff within and out-with the Trust
  • Lead on producing, implementing, and updating department/relevant policies, guidelines, and procedures
  • Lead on, and regularly participate in research and audit within the wider Dietetic Service
  • Participate and contribute to the Nutrition Team, Critical care complex cover (with training), and provide cover for other services areas as and when required as per Trust bed pressures
  • Participate in seven-day service on a rota basis
  • Undertake the planning, organisation, allocation, and training of student training
  • Be responsible for supervision of junior staff

The Nutrition & Dietetic department at NMUH is part of the Therapies Department provides a service to all inpatients and outpatients on site, serving clients from Enfield, Haringey and other boroughs - particularly for oncology.

The services include General medical & surgical, Gastroenterology, Elderly, Acute Stroke unit, Renal , Haematology, Respiratory, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Neurology, Urology, Intensive care, HIV, Oncology, Paediatric & Women's' services including gynaecology and maternity

Our aim is to: Provide a high standard of evidence-based clinical services, to all clients who have an underlying medical condition, which requires adjustment to normal dietary intake, including those clients that require artificial nutritional support in the form of enteral (oral or tube feeding) or total parenteral nutrition

  • Conduct audit and research to improve client care and delivery of dietetic services
  • Provide education to clients, to enable short and long-term changes to their dietary intake
  • Educate staff, including medical staff, nurses, other AHPs, at the NMUH on evidence-based practice to enable appropriate patient care of a high standard
  • Liaise with catering to ensure appropriate meals are provided to inpatients
  • Communicate with, and engage in multidisciplinary team-working
  • Provide student training to ensure continuity of the profession and ensure training is a positive experience for the student

Education & professional Qualifications Essential

  • BSc in Dietetics 4-year degree course or equivalent
  • State Registered Dietitian with HPC
  • BDA specialist group member

Desirable

  • BDA post graduate diploma in advanced dietetic practice or equivalent in BDA postgraduate courses equivalent to Master's

Experience Essential

  • Up to date clinical knowledge
  • Knowledge of general medications for Surgical services
  • Knowledge of government strategy for Surgical areas

Desirable

  • Experience of research

Skills and aptitudes Essential

  • Ability to provide specialised treatment packages, plan and provide appropriate monitoring and use initiative for Surgical services
  • Ability to analyse complex, conflicting information for Surgical services, and deciding on the most appropriate treatment plan from a range of options
