Job description

Position: Advanced Practitioner
Location: Northumberland County Council

Northumberland County Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practitioner to join our Children’s Safeguarding service. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced social worker ready to step into a senior role and help shape safe and positive outcomes for children and families across the county.

About the Role

As an Advanced Practitioner, you will carry a complex caseload and demonstrate exemplary practice in situations requiring high levels of autonomy and professional judgement. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children through robust assessment, planning and intervention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload involving complex and sensitive cases, requiring in-depth knowledge and advanced practice.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced social workers within the team.
  • Offer direct supervision to team members as delegated by the Team Manager.
  • Chair key meetings within the Signs of Safety framework, such as Child in Need Reviews and Initial Core Groups.
  • Work within current legislation and the procedural framework of Northumberland County Council.
  • Collaborate with service users, their families, and multi-agency partners to assess needs and develop support plans.
  • Act as a Practice Educator, supervising and supporting student social work placements.
  • Participate in regular professional supervision in accordance with departmental policy.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualified and registered social worker with significant post-qualification experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in child protection, safeguarding and statutory children’s social care services.
  • Strong interpersonal, decision-making and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional development.
  • Practice Educator qualification (or willingness to undertake).
  • A strong understanding of the Signs of Safety approach and experience in chairing meetings.
