Are you an experienced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist who enjoys working in a dynamic Multi-disciplinary team to provide treatment and support for patients experiencing Chronic Pain. If so, we have an incredible position waiting for you.

It is a Band 8a post, with scope to be offered as a developmental role from Band 7-8a dependant on experience and completion of appropriate competencies, where you will be able to expand your expertise in working with complexities and co-morbidities like Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia and Long-Covid and really make a difference to how patients are able to engage with the world around them and achieve their goals. This is a 1 year fixed term or secondment opportunity.

Main duties of the job

You will participate in triage for both spinal and pain patients referred into the IPASS service with support from the MDT where required, assimilating and gathering information to enable you to achieve this.

You'll be responsible for the assessment and treatment for patients experiencing chronic pain and fatigue and helping them set and achieve value-based goals alongside supporting and working others within the multi-disciplinary team.

You will lead and deliver groups aimed at supporting those experiencing pain including specific movement and fibromyalgia groups.

You will work in collaboration with other specialists in Chronic Pain and Spinal conditions including Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Medics to deliver specialist interventions to people with ongoing pain.

You will be required to demonstrate development through a competency based evidence gathering process and be supported by experienced staff to do so.

You'll be based at Finchampstead and deliver care in a number of premises across the West of Berkshire as required.

Job responsibilities

The must haves for this role:

High level of experience working in a musculoskeletal setting including assessment and treatment of spinal conditions.

Registered and accredited with Health Care Professional Council (HCPC) as a Physiotherapist as well as be registered with the CSP.

Experience of working with chronic pain patients and an understanding of the specific needs of this patient group.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications/Training
  • Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • Member of HCPC
  • To have undertaken accredited courses which enable work to be performed at APP level
  • Significant Post-Graduate training in the specialist field: high level of skills underpinned by experience
  • Proven record in CPD of relevant area
  • Additional training in Psychological therapies such as CBT and ACT
  • CSP membership
  • Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations (IRMER) training
  • Post-graduate management/leadership course
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Group e.g Advanced Practice Physiotherapy
Previous Experience
  • Experience of formal and informal teaching to, colleagues in the physiotherapy department, other AHPs and GPs/Registrars.
  • Demonstrate clinical leadership within the Physiotherapy Department, including direct supervision and training senior staff
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Expert Knowledge of pathology, assessment, diagnosis and management in the specialist fields of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Pain
  • Understanding relevant National policies and guidelines relevant to the area
  • Evidence of own self development through PDP
  • Evidence of appraising staff
  • Knowledge and evidence of Audit and Research
  • Ability to develop others via CPD/PDP/In-Service training/presentations
  • Excellent written communication skills to ensure information is understood by patients, referrers and other healthcare professionals.
