Advanced Pharmacist (Antimicrobial Specialist)

We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic pharmacist to lead the antimicrobial stewardship strategy within Prince Philip Hospital, allowing the post holder to make a real difference to antimicrobial resistance.

We are looking for a highly motivated Pharmacist with excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills.

Working closely with patients and the multidisciplinary team you will need to be enthusiastic, have excellent team working and negotiating skills. We are looking for an individual who can work independently with excellent prioritization skills and the ability to use their initiative.

Applicants must be registered as pharmacists with the GPhC, completed a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent).

We are a patient-centred and progressive team who collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary teams enhancing patient safety through professional advice to prescribers, discharge planning and attending consultant led ward rounds.

Main duties of the job

Working with the Medicines Management Team, Consultant Microbiologists and other Health Board Antimicrobial Pharmacists, you will help to deliver antimicrobial stewardship throughout the hospital.

You will help deliver these ambitions using several initiatives and interventions, including local and national audits and feedback; contributing to and implementing local and national antimicrobial prescribing guidelines; working towards achieving Welsh Government targets and supporting the education and training of health care workers in antimicrobial stewardship.

Approximately half the time will be spent on antibiotic related duties and the other half on other clinical duties. You will work with the multidisciplinary team, monitoring financial expenditure, undertaking research and service improvement, alongside supporting the core pharmacy services in the dispensary and on wards.

As an advanced Pharmacist you will be responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of a patient focused clinical pharmacy service. The successful candidate will work within general medical wards, developing their pharmacist role with potential to develop in pharmacist led clinics as an IP.

Applicants will be required to take part in the week-end and on-call rota.

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in area of practice or equivalent experience or qualifications
  • Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (Leeds University) or equivalent if role includes aseptics
  • Registered as QC if role includes aseptics
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Accredited supervisor for foundation or post foundation Pharmacists

  • Specialist knowledge of medicines management systems and process in an integrated NHS
