NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. This is an exciting opportunity, for an experienced pharmacist, to join an established pharmacy team, as an Advanced Pharmacist, within the wider Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC), Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service (ADRS).
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services manage a system of care for individuals with problem drug and alcohol use in the largest health board in Scotland. The health board includes some of the most deprived areas in the UK, with the highest prevalence of problem drug use and alcohol related harms. The provision of accessible, high quality and recovery orientated services are an important component of addressing public health needs and tackling health inequalities.
The Advanced Pharmacist’s role is to develop, co-ordinate, support and deliver pharmacy services within GGC ADRS, community pharmacy, with support to other specialist settings including inpatients, the Enhanced Drug Treatment Service (EDTS) and the pilot Drug Checking Service.
The post holder will work to optimise pharmaceutical care to patients, maximise benefit and minimise risk to patients from their medicines in accordance with local and national priorities. They will work to improve prescribing practice and work with other senior pharmacists to achieve an integrated and consistent approach to ADRS pharmacy service provision in both Primary and Secondary Care Sectors.
They will deputise for and support the work of the GGC ADRS Lead Pharmacist, at both a local and national level. They will assist the Lead pharmacist to support 285 community pharmacies on all aspects of substance use and will provide professional support and liaise on pharmacy issues to a wide range of management structures, staffing groups, treatment and care services, primary care and Tier 4 services, statutory services, voluntary agencies, and to the 6 Alcohol and Drug Partnerships (ADPs) and HSCPs in GGC.
This post requires a pharmacist with strong inter-personal and organisational skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to negotiate with and influence others Candidates should be able to demonstrate working at a senior level, working autonomously, making high level clinical decisions. Candidates must be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a wide range of pharmaceutical services, community pharmacy, non- medical prescribing, aseptic practices and processes, clinical prescribing systems, drug law reform and legislation, harm reduction interventions, alcohol & drug care and treatment, and recovery orientated systems of care. A Master’s Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent, in addition to a post graduate qualification in substance use or equivalent, is essential and candidates ideally should have a prescribing qualification and be willing to learn on the job.
This post is available on a full time basis and requires an individual with the ability to participate, when needed in a 7 day flexible rota, covering weekends, bank holidays and providing emergency cover when necessary.
