Job overview

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team. The nurse will act as an autonomous practitioner in forming holistic clinical decisions and complex management plans in the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of patients. In conjunction with senior nursing and consultant staff, they will formulate the development of clinical guidance for all aspects of clinical practice within the specialty. The post holder will develop new areas of practice, ensuring quality standards are met, and work closely with the interdisciplinary team to maintain high-quality patient care. They will contribute to the daily management of the service and collaborate with stakeholders within the organisation and the South east London Cancer Alliance.

Main duties of the job

Join the RDC service as an experienced nurse with advanced skills. The post holder will be responsible for managing patients with concerning non-site-specific symptoms and will be a key member of the RDC team. The role involves patient contact, working in a multidisciplinary environment, and supporting high-quality service delivery. Responsibilities include operational management of the RDC service, strategic engagement with the South East London Cancer Alliance, third sector organisations, and local stakeholders.   • Deliver professional and clinical responsibilities, including holistic assessment of individuals.

  • Proactively develop and improve service delivery through innovation and new practices.
  • Develop and implement new policies and clinical guidance with nursing and consultant staff.
  • Lead effective communication within the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers, and external agencies.
  • Coordinate and manage daily clinic activities.
  • Engage with local and tertiary referral centres to share best practices.
  • Investigate complaints and develop action plans.
  • Build partnerships across professional and organisational boundaries to improve healthcare outcomes.
  • Provide training and educational opportunities at various levels.
  • Manage budgets and ensure compliance with cancer pathways, including reporting on statistics and service developments.

Person specification

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, health, or management.
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent experience, or in progress.
  • Advanced physical assessment qualification for non-medical practitioners.
  • Independent prescriber A, according to Trust policy.
  • First-level registered Nurse or relevant professional registration.
Experience
  • Broad clinical experience relevant to the role, including general medicine principles.
  • Experience of managing clinics.
  • Experience in patient and staff education, health promotion, and prevention.

  • Advanced knowledge of the specialty with diverse management approaches.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and comprehensive patient assessment skills.
