The Acute Liaison Psychiatry Service (ALPS) promotes the integration of specialist mental health care within the general hospitals in Bradford and Airedale.
Based within the acute hospital, Acute Liaison Psychiatry Service enables 24/7 access to specialist mental health care. This is to provide specialist psychiatric assessment, advice and treatment for Children, Young people, Older adults and adults with a known or suspected mental health need in the acute hospital.
The Acute Liaison Psychiatry Service at each site is split into two offers. Firstly a 24/7 urgent response service focused primarily on assessment and sign posting in the Emergency Departments (ED). Secondly, an in reach service, predominantly during office hours, focused on support, treatment and discharge planning.
The ANP will deliver specialist interventions within their areas of expertise, including but not limited to prescribing. They offer a route of escalation to the ALPS for more complex cases requiring a second opinion / assessment. Primarily the ANP will be focused day to day on the in reach work on to the medical wards. They will always champion and facilitate partnership working to develop support and discharge plans.
In support of the Team Leader, the ANP will be active in the development of the service, gathering views of the team, clinical data and service user feedback. The function of this work is to improve pathways and treatment that is in line with the vision set out by national standards, the Service and Clinical manager. They will provide training specific to there area of expertise to the team.
