Job summary

A regional healthcare institution is seeking an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to provide specialized care to patients with chronic and acute conditions. Advanced Nurse Practioner - Arrhythmia

The Advanced Practitioner will provide highly specialised care within the hospital setting, to those patients with chronic and acute conditions using advanced clinical knowledge that is evidence based. The Advanced Practitioner will function independently or within a clinical team and will demonstrate competence complementary to the doctor's role in the delivery of healthcare.

Main duties of the job

Undertake independent comprehensive assessment and management of patients to incorporate physiological, psychological and pharmacological considerations, making multifaceted complex clinical decisions regarding patient management and clinical outcomes, including, where appropriate, listing patients for elective procedures and discharging patients from the service when treatment is complete/optimum outcome is achieve.

Regularly re-evaluate the service and develop according to need, within the limitation of resource.

Job responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities.

To accept new and follow-up referrals in patients with chest pain and syncope

To undertake ILR implant procedures and tilt table testing, coratid sinus massage and other procedures (such as ascites and chest drainage for ambulatory heart failure service).

To undertake clinical audit, research and service development.

Recognises and acts as an advocate for patients, carers, service and organisation.

Provide counselling and advocacy for patients with acute and chronic conditions

Lead change as required and ensure resolution of conflict, acting as a facilitator, resource and model to nursing and medical staff, and professions allied to medicine

Undertake research and service development

Regularly re-evaluate the service and develop according to need, within the limitation of resource.

Monitor and evaluate the role of the Advanced Practitioner in liaison with appropriate managers and medical staff, and demonstrate and respond to changing needs

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • First level registered nurse/allied Health Professional currently working at an Advanced Practitioner level
  • Non-Medical prescribing module
  • Working towards completing MSc in Advance Practice (in the final year)
  • Significant experience in an acute clinical setting
  • ALS/Alert provider
  • NMC Practice Teacher or equivalent
  • MSc in Advanced Practice or equivalent
Knowledge
  • 5 years post-registration experience.
  • Significant years' experience at Band 6 or above
  • Detailed knowledge of current best practice in relevant clinical area
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development
  • Post-registration experience in Cardiology.
  • Experience in various aspects of Cardiology services
  • portfolio of evidence showing achievements in Cardiology
Skills
  • Working knowledge of the current professional NHS issues contributing to Service Development
  • Competent in organising own work load.
  • Ability to work autonomously, plan, organise, prioritise and delegate appropriate interventions to support staff
  • Commitment to training and development.
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Effective written and oral communication/listening skills.
  • Ability to understand and analyse professional and ethical issues and apply them to service development.
  • Flexbility to move between all work environments and rotate around clinical areas.
  • Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional/aggressive patients/carers.
  • Undertaken a management programme
  • ECDL Qualification or equivalent
  • Have an understanding of team dynamics and an ability to influence the building of effective relationships between staff

  • Willingness to work flexibly and at other sites when required. Ability and willingness to undertake further training as necessary
