Job description

1 - To be highly competent in performing a broad range of routine and complex Cardiac Physiology clinical-technical procedures and techniques, and to be an advanced practitioner in at least one specialist field.

2 - As an advanced practitioner, to take a proactive role with Lead Physiologists and other Cardiac Physiologists in developing and providing organized and efficient clinical-technical input to diagnostic investigations and therapeutic services of the department.

3 - As a professional Advanced Healthcare Scientist, to manage the maintenance of standards and quality in the clinical-technical Cardiac Physiology services, including responsibility for training trainees, junior staff, and peers in specialist areas.

4 - To foster and develop good working relationships through adequate, timely, and appropriate communication with all staff and patients involved in work activities.

5 - To participate in providing the out-of-hours emergency Cardiac Physiology clinical-technical service to achieve 24/7 coverage.

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Provide specialist technical support in invasive/interventional procedures such as Coronary angiography, Percutaneous Coronary intervention, Valvuloplasty, and TAVI.
  • Perform intracardiac pressure monitoring, recording, measuring, and interpreting.
  • Conduct near-patient real-time blood analysis and monitoring, including coagulation and oxygen saturation.
  • Set-up, maintain, troubleshoot, and provide continuous care for intra-aortic balloon pumps.
  • Perform right heart studies, including blood saturations, monitoring, calculations, recording, measuring, and analysis.
  • Set up and deliver external cardioversion, including energy delivery.
  • Utilize intracoronary ultrasound, pressure wires, rotablation, OCT, and shockwave technologies for setup, measurement, and recording.
  • Manage temporary pacing, including equipment setup, threshold testing, and rapid pacing.
  • Follow-up on implantable devices: Pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, including interrogation, analysis, programming, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Manage implantable loop recorders and remote follow-up/home monitoring systems.
  • Perform device implantation procedures, including patient preparation, equipment setup, testing, analysis, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct electrophysiology studies and ablation procedures, including complex ablations using 3D mapping systems.
  • Perform intraoperative TOE and emergency TTE to standard.
