In this role, you’ll be encouraged and supported to increase your skills and experience through extended roles and innovative autonomous working practices. You’ll deliver clinics at various locations, including in the acute and community settings. Depending on your previous professional experience, you may spend significant time working in an extended role supporting the orthoptic-led glaucoma service.
The glaucoma aspect of this role will involve working alongside nurse and orthoptic assistant colleagues to monitor and manage glaucoma patients. This role will support further development of the glaucoma service and the staff who provide this service.

For the right candidate, we offer a developmental post with appropriate training and mentoring. Candidates without all the experience will be paid at Band 6 and can progress to Band 7 upon completing relevant competencies.
About the service
The Orthoptic department provides general adult and paediatric clinics, including patients from eye casualty, neurology, stroke rehabilitation, school vision screening, and special school screening. In an extended role, we support clinics such as Dystonia/Botox, JIA, AMD, and Glaucoma Monitoring.
Career development and progression
We offer extensive training and development opportunities, supporting clinical and leadership growth. You’ll be involved in clinical audits, governance sessions, journal clubs, departmental meetings, and relevant seminars.

Pay: The salary reflects the Agenda for Change 5/6 rates, including a pay award to be implemented later this year. If you start before the award, it will be backdated to your start date. Until then, pay is based on the 4/5 pay bands (NHS Employers).
