The Estates department at Westmorland General Hospital is a team of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join us.

You should be experienced, time-served, and suitably qualified in mechanical fitting or plumbing, with fault-finding skills.

Main duties of the job

Experience in mechanical fitting, manufacturing, or plumbing, especially within healthcare, is advantageous but not essential, as specific training will be provided.

This is a rewarding role. Working under the Mechanical Team Leader, the successful candidate will undertake mechanical maintenance within NHS properties, focusing on heating and pressure systems, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, medical gases, and other healthcare-related mechanical services.

You must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and communicate effectively at all levels. Flexibility to assist other trades and undertake additional tasks to maintain building services is required.

You will need to join an on-call team to provide out-of-hours emergency responses after initial training.

This position is based at Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal.

Working for our organisation

Our operations span three main hospitals—WGH in Kendal, Furness General Hospital in Barrow, and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary—as well as community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practices, and Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe.

FGH and RLI offer a range of hospital services, including Emergency Departments and Critical Care units.

WGH provides general hospital services and an Urgent Treatment Centre for minor conditions.

All sites provide outpatient, diagnostic, therapeutic, day case, and inpatient services, along with community outreach programs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
