Job description

The Estates department at Westmorland General Hospital is a team of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic person to join us.

You should be experienced, time served, and suitably qualified in mechanical fitting or plumbing and fault finding.

A mechanical fitting, manufacturing, or plumbing background, particularly within healthcare, would be advantageous but not essential, as specific training will be provided.

This is a highly rewarding role. Working under the Mechanical Team Leader, the successful candidate will undertake a challenging role, focusing on safety, efficiency, and patient and staff well-being.

Working as part of a team and individually, you will carry out mechanical maintenance within acute and community NHS properties. This includes work on heating and pressure systems, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, medical gases, and other healthcare-related mechanical services.

The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and a good communicator at all levels. Flexibility will be required to assist other trades and undertake various tasks to maintain building services.

You will be required to join an on-call team to provide out-of-hours emergency response after an initial training period.

This position is based at Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal.

Our Hospital Network
  • We operate from three main hospitals: Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI).
  • Additional facilities include community healthcare premises such as Millom Hospital, GP Practices, and Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe.
  • FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various specialist services.
  • WGH provides general hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and outpatient, diagnostic, and surgical services.
  • Community outreach services and diagnostics are available across Morecambe Bay.
