Main duties of the job

We are looking for two experienced and enthusiastic Dosimetrists to join our dynamic radiotherapy team.

The role offers comprehensive involvement in treatment planning, including manual and AI-assisted contouring of organs at risk, as well as the planning and verification of complex radiotherapy plans using advanced techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, SABR, and SRS. The successful candidate will also take on management responsibilities, support and mentor junior team members while ensuring high standards of clinical practice are maintained. In addition, they will contribute to service development initiativesand quality improvement projects, helping to advance our radiotherapy service delivery.

Flexible working options, including a blend of on-site and remote working, are available for suitable applicants.

Job responsibilities

a) Provide technical radiotherapy treatment planning advice to radiotherapy consultants, other clinicians, radiotherapy management, pre-treatment and treatment radiographers, and any other relevant staff on all matters relating to the technical aspects of the radiotherapy systems and their associated components.

b) Assist with the allocation of staff and distribution of work from different clinical services in Radiotherapy and support the planning of brachytherapy.

c) Act as a site-specific specialist.

d) Deputise for the Principal Dosimetrist as required.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
  • Degree in Therapeutic Radiography, Clinical Technology or other science based subject (or equivalent level of experience)
  • Masters in Therapeutic Radiography, Clinical Technology or other science based subject or masters level experience
  • State registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer or eligibility for registration on the Voluntary Register for Technologists as a Radiotherapy Physics Technologist
  • Significant knowledge and experience at specialist level of anatomy and physiology, radiation interactions, advanced treatment planning and mould room skills through degree and supplemented with CPD, short specialist courses and scientific meetings plus in-depth experience
  • Significant experience of advanced radiotherapy planning techniques
  • Broad knowledge of anatomy, physiology radiotherapy mould room and dosimetry
  • Practical experience in radiotherapy quality control and dosimetry measurements
  • Counselling skills
