Job description

Advanced Clinical Practitioner / Lead Nurse

We are looking for an exceptional nurse to appoint to this key leadership post within our HIV and Integrated Sexual Health service based at St Mary's hospital in central London for a 9-month fixed term maternity cover. The successful candidate for this Lead Nurse / Advanced Clinical Practitioner role will provide operational leadership and direction for the integrated sexual health nursing team comprising of nurse practitioners, specialty nurses, staff nurses, nursing associates and healthcare assistants.

Our ideal candidate will have extensive relevant experience within the field, advanced clinical skills and knowledge, especially in operational management, contraception, and STI management. The post holder will be expected to work clinically as well as proving operational leadership to the team.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will be a skilled communicator with a passion for education and staff development. You will place a high priority on maintaining a supportive and caring environment for both patients and staff, and on developing the highest standards of evidence based practice and achieving key quality metrics.

You will be fully supported in your role by the department's consultant nurses and wider leadership teams.

Main duties of the job
  • Advanced clinical care in integrated sexual health, contraception including intrauterine contraception and implants
  • Operational leadership of the integrated sexual health service, including management of the nurse practitioner team
  • Taking an active role in departmental teachingAudit, research & service development

Person Specification
Education
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife
  • Has attained/ working towards a master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or related area
  • Post registration courses in HIV, contraception and/ or sexual health.
  • Holds/ working towards Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare, letters of competence in sub dermal implants and intrauterine devices
  • Teaching and assessing qualification and has taught as a guest lecturer in sexual health at a University level.
  • Holds/ working towards Faculty Registered trainer status
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years post registration experience
  • Minimum of 3 years in a clinical position within sexual health posts
  • Minimum of 18 months of experience of staff management
  • Previous experience of staff supervision
  • Previous experience of involvement with clinical audit and/or disease surveillance
Skills
  • Previous experience of working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner
  • A proven ability to work autonomously at an advanced level in both male and female patients in sexual and reproductive health.
  • Evidence of applying current research to practice
  • Comprehensive understanding of other services and local referral networks.
  • Proven work record of busy/stressful environments
  • Experience of managing projects and delivering cost Improvement plans
