Do you have experience as an ACP but want some experience in emergency medicine? Do you want to try a portfolio career? We are in a position to offer a 12-month part-time, fixed-term contract to provide secondment cover.
We are looking for an ACP to work in our Emergency Department at the RUH. We are looking for an experienced professional from a paramedic, nurse, pharmacist or physiotherapy background who is ready to take this next step in their career.
The successful candidate will have completed an MSc in Advanced Practice and be close to completing their RCEM portfolio (within six months), working towards credentialing with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM).
The ED team at the RUH has a developing ACP team, led by a Consultant Nurse who is a dual (adult & paediatric) RCEM-credentialed ACP. The current team consists of three RCEM-credentialed ACPs in addition, and three ACPs who are looking to submit for credentialing in 2026-2027. We have a team of 20 ED consultants, 2 PEM consultants and 2 associate specialists. The nursing and AHP team are led by the ED Matron and Urgent Treatment Centre lead practitioner, with support of the Senior Matron for Urgent and Emergency Care.
The successful candidate will join the ACP team at an exciting time, as we look to align with the developing RCEM post-credentialing strategy. We are also keen to explore sustainable, long-term job plans for the ED ACP team.
The Emergency Department Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) will develop the competencies and experience to deliver expert and autonomous assessment, examination, treatment and diagnosis to a range of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
You will be allocated an FRCEM Consultant educational supervisor, who will support your development and training, as well as support from the ACP team. You will have protected non clinical time where you will be supported to lead on a departmental non-clinical project, with time also dedicated to your own professional development.

Every improvement we make across our Group will be guided by what creates the greatest benefit for our colleagues, our patients, our communities and our partners.
By working together, we make a real difference for our patients, each other, and our community. Every role matters in delivering the exceptional, person‑centred care we’re proud of.
We’re committed to a compassionate, inclusive culture where kindness is championed, differences are valued, and diversity makes us stronger.
We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential. We prioritise staff wellbeing – and yes, we even have a pool!
The secondment will be 22.5 hours per week in this role, with an 80% clinical/20% non-clinical split. There may be an opportunity to increase hours further over the coming months. Split job roles will also be considered.
Due to service needs, priority will be given to applications from currently qualified ACPs who are close to achieving or already hold the RCEM credential. Depending on interest, we may also consider applications for a trainee role, with the post paid at Band 7. Eligible candidates for a trainee role will have current experience in a secondary care Emergency Department, an acute care area (medicine or surgery), or a secondary care Urgent Treatment Centre, and will be in the final module of their MSc in Advanced Practice, with significant experience in autonomous practice.

You trained to do speech therapy. So why is so little of your week made up of actual therapy?
The reports. The admin. The everything else that needs done.
The waitlists you can't shrink and the families just outside your area. Whatever's between you and the therapy, you didn't get into this job for any of it.
