Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria- Registered optometrist with the General Optical Council
- College of Optometrists Diploma in Therapeutics (Independent prescribing)
Desirable criteria- Further specialist qualifications e.g., College of Optometrists Higher Qualifications
- Master's or Doctorate level equivalent in an optometry/ophthalmology/ management subject
Knowledge, Training and ExperienceEssential criteria- Advanced theoretical knowledge in a range of clinical areas
- Substantial years' experience in post graduate clinical experience
- Ability to competently undertake highly specialist advanced clinical extended roles e.g., cornea, glaucoma, acute services, cataract, medical retina
- Knowledge and experience of clinical matters beyond direct clinical role e.g., surgical techniques and management
- Experience working with visually impaired patients & others with learning disabilities
- Broad understanding of the optometry profession, primary/secondary care interface, NHS service provision
- Experience of conducting audits and implementing service changes based on audit results
Desirable criteria- Management & leadership: Experience of line management
- Evidence of research
