The St James Adult Medicine Team is looking to recruit a motivated advanced clinical pharmacist to lead services in Adult Respiratory Medicine.

Main duties of the job

You will provide expert clinical pharmacy input and oversight to our respiratory wards, including the respiratory support unit, and support outpatient clinics such as TB and interstitial lung disease clinics. The post offers the opportunity to be a vital part of the multidisciplinary team and collaborate with advanced practitioners and national experts.

You will lead and develop a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and actively participate in the education and training of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

There is also the opportunity to work on the Trust’s discharge collaborative work, ensuring safe and timely patient discharges.

You will monitor and report on the clinical and financial governance of medicines in this specialty, suggest improvements, and lead initiatives where appropriate.

Job responsibilities

Lead, develop, and evaluate highly specialized clinical pharmacy services within a clinical specialty.

Job Dimensions

Lead the specialized pharmacy service, ensure medicines are used appropriately, safely, and cost-effectively, and manage other pharmacists providing services in the specialty.

Work closely with consultants, nursing staff, and managers; monitor medicine expenditures; report on clinical governance and risk management.

Supervise development and implementation of treatment protocols and guidelines; train healthcare professionals; support prescribing practices.

Support the Trust's prescribing standards, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and manage clinical trials and new drug introductions.

Develop policies for safe, effective, and economical medicine use, and liaise with primary care regarding medicines policies.

Management

Monitor and interpret medicine expenditure, advise on financial implications, lead service development projects, and supervise staff.

Qualifications
  • Registrant of the GPhC, postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
  • Non-medical prescriber status
  • MPharm Degree
Experience
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical and clinical strategies at local and national levels
  • Advanced clinical pharmacy knowledge in relevant areas
  • Familiarity with NHS and government policies
  • Competence across all 6 domains of the ACLF
