Job summary

The post holder will act as an experienced Advanced HPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to provide continuous and comprehensive Pathology service, aiding effective diagnosis and treatment of patients. They will assist in delivering a high-quality, cost-effective clinical service and support service development aligned with departmental objectives.

The post holder will provide training and quality management expertise in Cellular Pathology across NCA, working flexibly at various sites. Responsibilities include staff training (competencies, registration, specialist portfolios) and quality management, acting as a senior team member to ensure good governance and support the quality management system.

The Cellular Pathology service for NCA operates in two departments: Salford and Oldham. The primary base is Salford, with support across NCA. The department processes approximately 98,000 histology requests annually, covering Neurology, Dermatology, Breast, Head & Neck, Gynae, GI, Urology, Respiratory, and handles 10,000 diagnostic cytology and Andrology services.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage and coordinate daily staff training and department quality management system activities.
  • Train, develop, and assess staff competencies.
  • Analyze and interpret results, ensuring standard and quality of outcomes.
  • Participate in technical activities requiring advanced technical knowledge.
  • Process biomedical specimens with specialist technical skills.
  • Manage workflow efficiently within the department.
  • Maintain HCPC registration through ongoing professional development.
  • Serve as the department's training manager.
  • Deputize for the Cellular Pathology Operations Manager when needed.
