Job description

Advanced Biomedical Scientist - Histology
London, HCA Laboratories (Shropshire House)
Full Time

Shift times: 37.5 Hours per week. Monday - Friday
Permanent
Salary: Competitive dependent upon experience

We're looking for an Advanced Biomedical Scientist to join our Histology team at our HCA Laboratories, based in Shropshire House. The successful Candidate will have extensive experience of working in Histology previously.

HCA Laboratories has over 35 years' experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.

What you'll be doing:
  • Practice as an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and maintain registration.
  • Follow HCA Labs standing policies and procedures to ensure an efficient delivery of laboratory service.
  • Comply with the code of practice of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and HCPC and work consistently to ISO 15189 (2012) and UKAS accreditation.
  • Carry out unsupervised routine and more complex investigations and analysis of tissue using specialised laboratory equipment.
  • Be responsible for delegated tasks involved in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of a clinical pathology service with high standards of patient care.
  • Assist with the teaching of new staff where appropriate.
  • Cooperate with supervisory staff and Pathologists in the introduction and development of new and improved techniques.
  • Maintain good work relationships with all members of staff, and promote effective teamwork.
  • Assist the BMS3 and liaise with Service Lead with the day-to-day and strategic management of the Histopathology Department.
  • Assist the Service Lead/BMS3 to manage the space and equipment allocated to the department to ensure an efficiently delivered service.
  • Assist with the establishment and development of departmental policies and procedures to ensure an efficient delivery of laboratory service.
  • Assist Service Lead/BMS3 in the formulation of departmental strategies for the training and development of all non-medical staff within the department and users of the service as appropriate.
  • Assist Service Lead/BMS3 to develop and maintain contingency plans for the department.

What you'll bring:
  • Degree in Biomedical Science or similar
  • MSc desirable
  • HCPC Registered
  • Experience in a Histology lab
  • Member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
  • Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences is desirable
