The Advance Nurse Practitioner will be a competent key member of staff within the Oncology Service, working in acute settings as an autonomous healthcare professional, who collaborates with the RMO’s, the Modern Matron, Nurse Specialists, and the wider MDT across the hospital.

You will provide clinical expertise in advance assessments, diagnosing, treatment and evaluation of adult patients within our Oncology Ward and Chemotherapy Day Unit (CDU), ensuring high quality, safe and efficient care to our patients whilst following best clinical practice, and high standard of care.

You’ll be a be a prescriber with V300 certification to prescribe, MSc in Advance Clinical Practice, with substantial post qualification in Oncology Nursing, and a confident autonomous worker making clinical decisions in a high pressured environment.

How you’ll help us make health happen:

  • Undertake comprehensive patient assessments including history-taking, physical examination, and diagnostic formulation.

  • Manage acutely unwell adult patients independently within scope of practice.

  • Initiate and interpret diagnostic investigations, including pathology and radiological (ionising radiation) scans in accordance with IR(ME)R regulations.

  • Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.

  • Formulate differential diagnoses, investigation and treatment plans, reiterating findings back to the named consultant and initiating appropriate referrals or escalation as required.

  • Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and safe, timely discharges.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, modifying care as appropriate.

  • Round patients under their care daily with the nursing team and other members of the MDT and report to the named consultant any concerns.

  • Work within their level of competence and locally agreed guidelines to facilitate care packages tailored to meet the needs of the patients.

  • Support clinical governance activities, including audits, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Act as a clinical resource and mentor for junior staff, nurses, and trainee ACPs.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, pathways, and hospital protocols.

  • Promote a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous professional development.

  • Responsible for maintaining excellent standards and ensuring that standards are monitored regularly and where appropriate corrective action is taken in conjunction with the CQC.
