Role Overview

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner will be a key member of staff within the Oncology Service, working in acute settings as an autonomous healthcare professional, collaborating with RMOs, the Modern Matron, Nurse Specialists, and the wider MDT. You will provide clinical expertise in assessments, diagnosing, treatment, and evaluation of adult patients within our Oncology Ward and Chemotherapy Day Unit, ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient care following best clinical practices.

Qualifications & Experience
  • V300 - independent prescribing certificate (essential)
  • Adult Register NMC Pin with no restrictions (essential)
  • Evidence of CPD (essential)
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (essential)
  • Experience working in acute oncology settings (essential)
  • ILS certification
  • Child & Adult Safeguarding certificate
Key Responsibilities
  1. Undertake comprehensive patient assessments including history-taking, physical examinations, and diagnostics.
  2. Manage acutely unwell adult patients independently within scope of practice.
  3. Initiate and interpret diagnostic investigations, including pathology and radiological scans in accordance with IR(ME)R regulations.
  4. Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, in line with evidence-based practice and protocols.
  5. Formulate differential diagnoses, investigation, and treatment plans, liaising with consultants and making referrals as needed.
  6. Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges safely and timely.
  7. Monitor and evaluate interventions, modifying care as needed.
  8. Participate in daily rounds and report concerns to the consultant.
  9. Work within competence levels and local guidelines to tailor care packages.
  10. Support clinical governance activities including audits, incident reports, and quality improvements.
  11. Mentor junior staff and contribute to clinical guideline development.
  12. Promote a culture of excellence, safety, and professional development.
  13. Maintain high standards and ensure compliance with CQC regulations.
