Job summary

TOGS Mind in Oldham is seeking an experienced Adults Therapeutic Counsellor to join the Talking Therapies Adults Counselling Team. You will deliver 50-minute person-centred sessions, handling a caseload and supporting clients across GP surgeries in the borough.

You will work from the Oldham Office with partner GP surgeries, maintain detailed client notes, manage referrals, and contribute to a collaborative service that promotes mental health and wellbeing.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience.
Minimum level 4 counselling diploma from a recognised institution.
Experience delivering short-term counselling sessions and managing risk/safeguarding.

Job description

We have an opportunity for an experienced counsellor to join our diverse and established Talking Therapies Adults Counselling Team. You will be based in our Oldham Office alongside GP surgeries across the borough reporting to the Counselling Project Manager. You will be responsible for delivering 50-minute person-centred counselling sessions, working with clients for up to 20 weekly sessions. Alongside this you will undertake a pivotal role in working from designated partner GP surgeries offering our initial discussion appointments and short-term therapy model. You will be responsible as part of our counselling service and wider adults’ team to strengthen your relationships across teams internally and with external services. This aims to ensure a collaborative way of working for clients to receive the most appropriate support for their mental health and wellbeing.

What you will bring to TOGS Mind:

To be considered for this role, we are looking for an experienced, passionate and reflective qualified counsellor with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience and continued practice. The successful candidate must hold a minimum of a level 4 counselling diploma from a recognised academic institution and be willing to undertake specialist training relevant to the need of the service.

Candidates are required to demonstrate their experience of providing short-term counselling sessions to clients experiencing common mental health concerns including mild to moderate depression and anxiety. Additionally, they will have experience of assessing, managing and supporting clients presenting with risk and safeguarding concerns which may arise during your therapeutic work.

You will have the ability to manage your own caseload of clients including managing client appointments, cancellations and updating client notes. Counsellors will also support in managing incoming and outgoing referrals and administration tasks associated with client referrals.

TOGS Mind counselling service are a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. We require a counsellor who aligns with the ethical standards as set out by BACP, who is professionally curious when working with clients and is proactive in their learning and continued professional development.
