Job summary

Staffordshire County Council is recruiting a Social Worker within the Adult Learning Disability and Autism Service to assess, plan, review and provide case management support for adults with learning disabilities and autism in the community.

You will work with families and carers to enable independence and positive outcomes, and opportunities for ongoing professional development through our Social Work Learning Academy and post-registration training.

Qualifications

• Registration with Social Work England is required.
• Commitment to undergo ASYE or equivalent training.
• Experience planning personalised support for adults with a learning disability.
• Understanding of Mental Capacity Act and related legislation.

Responsibilities

The Adult Learning Disability and Autism Service undertakes assessment, support planning, review and case management support alongside people living with learning disabilities, autism and neurodiversity ensuring that they, their families/carers and the people important to them are supported to live the life that they want to live in their chosen community.

Main Responsibilities

As a Social Worker in this team, you’ll:

• Have a passion for supporting adults to achieve their full potential and want to gain further experience in improving outcomes.
• Have the chance to support adults from the very start of their journey, reviewing their goals and ambitions.
• Continue to promote independence and opportunities, ensuringthat these have positive outcomes.
• Undertakeassessments, support planning, review and case management to support adults with a learning disability and/or autism ensuring that they, their families/carers and the people important to them are supported to live the life that they want to live.

The Ideal Candidate

The minimum criteria that will be used to shortlist for this role will be:

• Registration with Social Work England
• A proven track record of a person centred, and asset focused outlook and you’ll have high professional standards.
• Commitment to undergo appropriate training to achieve assessed year in practice (ASYE) where required
• Experience of planning personalised individual support for adults, with a learning disability
• Understanding of the legislative and policy context of services for adults with a learning disability, including case law and findings from enquiries.
• Understanding of learning disability and the impact, for individuals, their families and society
• Knowledge of adult physical, intellectual emotional and social development and family dynamics.
• Knowledge and some experience of applying the Mental Capacity Act assessments, Best Interest Assessments.
• Knowledge of Mental Health Legislation including section 117

You'll also be:

• Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
• Interested in undertaking approved mental health practitioner qualification (AMHP), Practice Educator (PE) training or Best Interest Assessor (BIA)
