Job summary

A leading council in Brent is looking for experienced Adults Safeguarding Social Workers to join their Adult Social Care team on a permanent basis. This role focuses on significant responsibilities including leading safeguarding enquiries under the Care Act 2014, working with various legal and health professionals to safeguard vulnerable adults. Suitable candidates will have a strong understanding of the relevant legislation and previous experience in complex safeguarding cases.

Adults Safeguarding Social Worker - Court of Protection & Section 42 Safeguarding
Location: Brent Offices, London
Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Salary: £45,510 - £46,512 + £5k Golden handshake + £3k Retention Bonus (recurring yearly)

Brent Council is looking to appoint 3 experienced Adults Safeguarding Social Worker to join their Adult Social Care team on a permanent basis. These roles are focused on Court of Protection work and leading safeguarding enquiries under Section 42 (1 & 2) of the Care Act 2014.

This is a fantastic opportunity for seasoned practitioners who are confident working with complex adult safeguarding concerns and legal frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage safeguarding enquiries under Section 42 of the Care Act.
• Apply the Mental Capacity Act and contribute to Court of Protection applications and proceedings.
• Work closely with legal teams, health professionals, and other agencies.
• Make defensible, evidence-based decisions in high-risk and complex situations.
• Provide clear, timely and accurate recording and reporting.

About You:

• Qualified Social Worker with active Social Work England registration.
• Proven experience leading Section 42 (1 & 2) safeguarding enquiries.
• Direct involvement in cases that have progressed to the Court of Protection.
• Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and associated legislation.
• Able to demonstrate practical application of the law, not just theoretical knowledge.
