Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy

We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Voice Specialist SLT who is passionate about making positive changes to develop staff and drive forward service developments to improve patient care.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced band 7 Voice Specialist SLT with a desire bring their expertise to Community Therapy.

You will join an established Community therapy team and be supported by a specialist Community SLT lead. Specialist Voice supervision will also be offered for therapists looking to develop into the band 7 role.

You will clinically be providing Voice assessment and intervention for patients referred into the Community Therapy service and working alongside MDT colleagues in the Voice Clinic offering your specialist SLT opinion on complex voice disorders. You will be supporting less experienced colleagues to develop voice expertise.

Main duties of the job
  • To develop specialist voice experience in supporting a clinical team of therapists and working alongside existing therapy leads provide assurance for the delivery of effective, evidence based, and governed interventions with Planned Community Therapy.
  • To work within the MDT in the Voice Service, with Consultant, Nursing and Therapy colleagues to provide effective caseload management & patient centered care, service improvement and staff development.
  • To support assessment and delivery of therapy to patients in the MDT voice clinic and voice therapy community clinic, and offer advice on treatment decisions to therapists from outside the area for patients referred into the specialist MDT voice clinic.
  • You will have responsibility for supporting the voice team and working as part of the Community therapy pathway to enable patients to receive appropriate, timely assessment and treatment.
  • You will support the MDT in providing expert clinical knowledge and leadership, supervising, and developing less experienced staff and contribute to the achievement of effective patient and service outcomes.
  • You will be supported by a robust therapy leadership team, where an inclusive culture adds value to service provision and where Quality Improvement is encouraged to drive effective patient care.You will have the opportunity to drive forward improvements in SLT voice services.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced, HCPC registered SLT to join our team, providing clinically reasoned assessment and patient centered treatment to people with voice disorders to enable improved quality of life, promote rehabilitation, self-management to prevent future deterioration.

We have a strong focus on clinical governance and provide a supportive framework for further learning. This post is key to the performance of the team and innovative development of the service, and your drive and enthusiasm will help support this.

You will be supporting the team lead of a small, dedicated team of SLTs within the planned therapy service, providing them with support and supervision.

You will work collaboratively with partners in acute and community services, to establish an integrated whole systems approach. This role will be the perfect opportunity for you to develop strategic and system thinking, working alongside system partnersin acute and community sectors to deliver integrated care, that is person centred and meaningful.

You will enable challenging conversations facilitating realistic, safe, and effective patient care, with carers, patients and both within the team and across system partners.

  • Physical EffortThere is a requirement for;o Sitting, standing, and walking during every working day.o Repetitive movements on a regular basis.o Pushing/pulling of wheelchairs or transfer equipment as required.o Moving and handling of equipment daily.o Driving between patient visits
  • Mental EffortThere is a requirement to carry out assessments, perform documentation and provide reports on a daily basis.It is expected that the post holder may be interrupted by carers/family/patient whilst carrying out assessment.It is expected that whilst in the office there may be interruptions from colleagues.There will be a requirement to be able to;o Check documents.o Analysing statistics or carrying out calculations.o Carry out assessments and complete documentation.o Maintain contemporaneous patient recordso Preparing reports/letters.o Carrying out non-clinical fault finding.
