Salary: £38,700 - £52,155 per annum (pro rata for part-time) plus a Golden Hello lump sum payment equal to 10% of salary on appointment

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced lawyer, whether solicitor, barrister, or fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, with a background in private practice or local authority work. The role involves supporting a large local authority in promoting equality and independence for vulnerable community members, with responsibilities including safeguarding and adult protection issues. The successful candidate will have litigation skills, preferably within the Court of Protection welfare jurisdiction, and be capable of advocacy and legal advice on mental health, mental capacity, safeguarding, and related areas.

About You

Applicants must:

  • Be qualified as an admitted Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
  • Have recent substantial experience in local authority legal work, including at least two of the following: mental health law, deprivation of liberty safeguards, Court of Protection work, judicial review, or adult social care law.
  • Have experience in public law litigation, including drafting legal documents.
  • Possess knowledge of public sector and administrative law, mental health, mental capacity, and community care law.
  • Be able to quickly assimilate information and provide effective legal advice and solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to influence outcomes.
  • Have excellent organizational, IT, and legal drafting skills.
