Wandsworth, London
Ofsted Rating: ‘Good’

Are you a passionate and dedicated social worker with the skills to engage and make a difference in the lives of young people, helping them see a positive future? Wandsworth Children’s Services Adolescent Team is a small but specialist social work team within our Specialist Services for Families.

As part of our evolving and ambitious team, you will adopt a trauma-informed and relational framework to address extra-familial harm through child protection lenses. You will work intensively with young people and their families to mitigate risks outside the family home, including Child Sexual Exploitation, Criminal Exploitation, Serious Youth Violence, Gangs, Missing, and online/social media abuse.

Can you help these young people by applying your creative approach, working flexibly and dynamically?

About the Role

In this specialist role, you will undertake statutory social work interventions from initial assessments to CIN / CP and CLA work. You will manage a lower caseload of around 8-10 young people, working intensively and creatively using a contextual safeguarding approach. Collaboratively, with the young person, family, friends, and professional network, you will develop targeted intervention plans aimed at mitigating risks of extra-familial harm, promoting safety, and supporting young people to reach their full potential.

You will employ a relationship-based and trauma-informed approach, offering reliable, consistent, and persistent engagement efforts. You will assess young people's experiences in the community and work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to plan, implement, and review interventions that create safety in various contexts.

This is a specialist area of practice, and it is essential that all practitioners, supervisors, and senior leaders ensure young people's safety, fair treatment, dignity, and respect, with anti-racist and anti-discriminatory practices at the core of our work.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England with relevant statutory experience working with children, young people, and families.
  • Understanding of Trauma-Informed, Systematic Practice, and issues related to young people at risk of extra-familial harm, including Child Sexual Exploitation, Criminal Exploitation, Serious Youth Violence, Gangs, Missing, and online/social media abuse.
  • Skilled in building trusting relationships and excellent communication skills across different contexts.
  • Experience of multi-agency collaboration, working creatively and flexibly to incorporate young people's wishes and feelings into decision-making and intervention plans.
  • Knowledge of anti-discriminatory, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist practices.
  • Confidence in conducting high-quality assessments and reports, managing risks, and reviewing intervention impacts.

If you are a confident social worker with strong assessment and planning skills, capable of working alongside families within their contexts to assess, plan, implement, and review interventions effectively, we encourage you to apply.

This is a rolling advert without a closing date. Applications are reviewed regularly, and interviews are scheduled accordingly.
