Overview

Greets and receives patients in a professional and courteous manner. Obtains and processes patient demographic and financial information needed to ensure quality patient care and appropriate reimbursement in an accurate and timely manner. Verifies insurance eligibility for all patients and obtains all necessary signatures and all regulatory documents.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

  1. Registers/pre-registers patients verifying and updating all information, obtaining all necessary signatures and issuing all regulatory documents.
  2. Calculates/communicates & collects anticipated out-of-pocket expenses.
  3. Verifies insurance eligibility and medical necessity accurately and timely.
  4. Follows up on all accounts with incomplete information for resolution on work questions accurately and timely.
  5. Transports/escorts patients.
Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (Minimum Requirements)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Schedules patients according to departmental guidelines.
  • Meets departmental POS collection goals.
  • Adheres to Red Flag Rule when registering patients.
  • Accurately completes and processes all regulatory documents.
  • Ensures precert/auths/referrals are obtained prior to service.
  • Asks & updates MSPQ every patient visit, without relying on prior visit information.
  • Registers patients within department timelines.
  • Maintains productivity by processing Methcare labs, pre-registering patients, or working workques when not scheduling or registering patients.
  • Scans in all necessary documentation (patient ID, ins card, scripts, consent).
  • Accurately selects medical record (all patients) and hospital account (correct recurring account).
  • Offers payment plans as an option for patient liabilities.
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize job functions, work independently, and exercise good judgment.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess good organizational/analytical skills and mathematical aptitude.
  • Basic personal computer skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma/GED Equivalent is required.
  • An Associates Degree in Business Administration is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of Customer Care/Support Experience is required.
  • One (1) year of working experience in hospital registration, medical business office, or closely related position may be substituted for two (2) years of customer service experience.
  • Post high school education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the work experience requirement.
