Job description

Telford College is seeking an experienced and proactive Admissions Manager to lead our admissions function. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Admissions, this role will ensure a smooth, efficient, and supportive experience for all prospective students and their families.

With a primary focus on 16–18-year-old learners, you will manage the full admissions journey – from initial enquiry through to enrolment – while also overseeing adult learner and apprenticeship applications. A key part of the role will be providing accurate and insightful data on applications, conversion rates, and learner profiles to help shape recruitment strategies and inform future curriculum planning.

You will also be responsible for managing bursary and transition processes, ensuring every applicant receives the guidance and support they need to succeed. This is a pivotal role at the heart of our recruitment activity, requiring strong leadership, excellent organisational skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clear leadership, direction, and support to the Admissions, Bursary, and Transition teams.
  • Support the Director of Marketing and Admissions to develop and deliver a highly effective admissions service – responsive to the needs of identified target audiences at all entry points.
  • Ensure a culture of excellent customer service and compliance across all teams.
  • Maintain oversight of adult and apprenticeship recruitment, ensuring effective processes, accurate reporting, and smooth applicant journeys.
  • Support the implementation of admissions processes, methodologies and tools that will maximise conversion rates and target high-quality candidates in line with the college’s recruitment objectives.
  • Track, analyse, and report on applications, conversion rates, withdrawals, and enrolment data for 16–18, adult and apprenticeship learners.
  • Produce regular management reports to inform SLT, governors, and curriculum leaders.
  • Analyse grade profiles and prior attainment to inform curriculum planning and future strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing Team to design and deliver campaigns that increase recruitment across all learner cohorts.
  • Provide data insights to support targeted marketing activity, open events, and outreach programmes.
  • Oversee bursary applications, ensuring funds are distributed fairly, transparently, and in line with regulations.
  • Lead transition processes for new students, including support for vulnerable learners and those with additional needs.
Qualifications & Training
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience
Skills & Expertise
  • Proven experience in managing admissions or student services within education (FE, HE, or schools)
  • Experience of data analysis, reporting, and using data to inform strategy
  • Understanding of recruitment for 16–18, adult learners, and apprenticeships
  • Strong IT skills, including use of MIS systems, Excel, and reporting tools
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and high standards of service delivery
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Experience of building and managing effective relationships with key stakeholders
