Overview

Internationally recognised in the field of metabolic disease, the Willink Biochemical Genetics Unit is a Regional Centre for the treatment and investigation of inborn errors of metabolism. The role involves coordinating patient appointments, communicating with families locally, nationally and internationally, and ensuring that the coordination of care is of paramount importance.

On joining the team, the successful candidate will be part of an experienced team committed to providing a high quality booking and scheduling service. The role requires attention to detail, organisation and prioritisation, and the ability to use initiative. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, flexibility and commitment to improving the patient experience. Responsibilities
  • Ensure patients are seen/treated in a timely manner in accordance with waiting list principles and relevant target dates as detailed in the Trust Access Policy.
  • Be customer focused, calm under pressure, and able to cope with a changing environment and work systems; provide clear verbal and written communication.
  • Use computer systems (training provided for the EPR system and other Trust systems) and review the electronic patient record system (HIVE) to manage patient pathways and proactive task lists in line with national targets.
  • Manage clinics to maximum capacity, escalating shortfalls in line with SOPs, and ensure clinic activity is actioned for reporting at weekly PTL meetings.
  • Undertake administration tasks for the Willink laboratory team (e.g., uploading reports, taking minutes, ordering couriers) and handle telephone queries.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organisational and prioritisation abilities, and good initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a changing environment.
  • Computer literacy with willingness to learn the Trust's EPR system and related systems.
