This position is a job share post for admin support within the Children's Bladder and Bowel team, which is a busy and ever expanding service. If you enjoy a fast paced environment with a varied workload day to day then this position is for you.

The Children's Bladder and Bowel service is a small team consisting of Specialist Nurses and a Health Care Assistant based at Broadoaks CDC in Leyland. The team are an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and extremely friendly and supportive group of people, who recognise individuality and encourage progress and change.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside other experienced, friendly admin support workers within the specialist nursing services, this will include booking appointments, answering phone call queries and providing administrative support to the Specialist Nurses and any other staff.

You will support the efficient channelling of communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Respond to external and internal telephone enquiries from staff, patients and others in an efficient, tactful and diplomatic manner and ensure that any messages/information is passed to the appropriate person quickly.
  • Communicate with a wide range of staff, patients and visitors to the Trust / Department utilising a variety of communication methods including verbal, electronic and passing information in a format that is appropriate to the individual request
  • Use databases and computer packages where appropriate to initiate and maintain records and generate statistics for analytical purposes.
  • Ensure databases are updated and accurate.
  • Accurate filing of patient investigations and correspondence, ensuring all are made available on Evolve.
  • Collect and sort incoming mail to be actioned by the SpecialistNurses or other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide secretarial and administrative support when other members of the team are absent.

Person specification

Qualifications and Experience

  • Good general education. Minimum GCSE in English and Maths grade A-C.
  • RSA 2 or equivalent.
  • RSA3 typing qualification or ECDL or equivalent.
  • Typing speed of 60wpm.

Knowledge and experience

  • Efficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powe point, email and intranet.
  • Able to manage own workload and work autonomously as part of a team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuing personal and professional development.
  • Experienced and competent minute taking. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Previous admin experience in the NHS environment.
  • Use of Trust IT packages ie. Harris Flex, Alma, Evolve.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
