Pay Rate: £12.36 per hour
Department: Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS)
Contract Type: Temporary (until December 2025)
Hours: Full-time

HMCTS is looking for dedicated Administrative Officers to support the smooth running of courts and tribunals. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to public service in a meaningful role, while gaining experience in a highly respected government organisation.

About the Role

As an Administrative Officer, you'll play a vital role in progressing cases through the courts and supporting essential functions within HMCTS. You'll be part of a flexible, collaborative team working to improve services using Lean principles and continuous improvement tools.

While based at Sheffield Combined Court, there may be occasional requirements to assist at nearby HMCTS locations.

Key Responsibilities

Administration & Casework:

Prepare and manage case files, court/tribunal documents, and correspondence

Input and update data using in-house systems

Organise meetings and hearing logistics

Handle post, photocopying, and filing

Customer Service & Communication:

Assist court users, judiciary, and legal professionals in person, by phone, and in writing

Offer helpful, prompt, and polite service at all times

Support the scheduling and progression of hearings

Operations & Process Support:

Clerk hearings and tribunals

Handle payments, court documents, and warrant processing

Use Lean techniques to solve problems and improve team processes

Participate in team meetings and contribute to small projects

Verification & Accuracy:

Check records, reports, results, and legal documents

Process calculations and financial information

Ensure quality and compliance of administrative output

What We're Looking For

5 GCSEs (A*-C) or equivalent OR NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration
