Description du poste

About the Organisation:

NHS Orkney is committed to delivering excellent care to our 22,000 residents. Whether you’re new to the NHS or bringing experience from elsewhere, your skills will make a real difference.

Our modern healthcare facility, The Balfour, brings together inpatient care, emergency services, outpatient clinics, diagnostics, GP practices and the Scottish Ambulance Service. We’re also investing in services across our outer isles, ensuring high-quality care reaches every corner of Orkney.

We are guided by our core values that shape everything we do – Open and honest, Respect and Kindness – from how we care for our patients to how we support each other as colleagues.

About Orkney:

With over 70 islands – 20 of them inhabited – Orkney offers a unique blend of natural beauty, close-knit community and an opportunity for adventure. From dramatic coastlines and rare wildlife to rich cultural traditions and active lifestyles, it’s a place where compassion thrives and every day brings something new. Regularly named one of the UK’s best places to live, Orkney offers a lifestyle that’s both fulfilling and inspiring.

The Position:

A new opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and highly organised Administration Team Leader to join the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). This is a varied dual-function role, combining day-to-day leadership of the administration service with the provision of high-quality medical secretarial support to Consultant Psychiatrists and adult psychiatry services.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and effective delivery of administrative and secretarial functions that support safe, responsive and person-centred mental health care within the community. Working within a busy and complex environment, the post holder will provide operational oversight of the administration team, ensuring effective systems and processes are in place to support clinicians, service users and the wider multidisciplinary team.

As Administration Team Leader, the post holder will provide day-to-day supervision and support to administrative staff, coordinating workloads, overseeing priorities and ensuring the delivery of an efficient and responsive administration service. The role will include supporting staff induction, training and supervision, while working closely with operational managers and clinical leads to support service performance and improvement.

Alongside leadership responsibilities, the post holder will provide comprehensive medical secretarial support to Consultant Psychiatrists and adult mental health medical staff, including the preparation of clinical correspondence, diary and appointment management, clinic coordination, referral processing and liaison with service users, carers, GP practices and partner agencies.

The successful candidate will be expected to manage confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion, prioritise competing demands effectively and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals to support the delivery of high-quality community mental health services.

The Candidate:

You will be an experienced administrator, with an HNC in Administration or a similar qualification. You will be well organised, have good planning and communication skills, and have experience of managing or supervising people.
