Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader and Programme Co-ordinator to manage the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust Advanced Trauma Life Support Course programme. This is a fixed-term post for one year to cover the current postholder's parental leave.

LTHT runs the largest ATLS programme in Europe, delivering over 20 courses a year from a conference centre in Harrogate. These courses are essential prerequisites for training progression for junior doctors involved in managing patients with major trauma. The post carries significant responsibility for the delivery and smooth running of these courses to an exceptional standard.

The successful candidate will be responsible for organising the three flagship courses of the ATLS programme: the ATLS Provider Course, ATLS Instructor, and the ATLS Reverification Course. These are two-day residential courses.

This role requires excellent organisational and time management skills, as the courses are run on an intense timetable. Pre-course planning and delivery take place over several weeks and involve all aspects of administrative IT delivery, as well as direct correspondence with the Course Director, faculty, and candidates.

The post holder must be able to lead the faculty during the two days of teaching and assessment, managing a complex schedule with multiple training and assessment stations. They will also handle practical arrangements such as setting up skill stations and managing equipment. It is preferable for the course co-ordinator to reside at the conference venue during training days, which may extend to 12 hours, but this can be discussed based on individual circumstances.

Work flexibility is required to accommodate the demanding schedule.

Main duties of the job

The post involves responsibility for the delivery of the ATLS courses, including planning, coordination, and leadership during courses, managing practical arrangements, and supporting candidates through a challenging educational experience. The role also entails administrative duties, quality monitoring, and team collaboration.

The candidate will work closely with the lead Course Director, Dr. Rosalind Roden, and the current ATLS course co-ordinator, who will provide training and orientation.

About us

While the primary duties focus on the Leeds ATLS Programme, additional responsibilities within the Medical Education Team at St James's University Hospital Leeds are also expected.

Values

Our values—Accountable and Empowered—guide our actions and endeavors. Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to redeploying 'at risk' staff to new roles, and all job adverts are subject to this policy, which may cause delays in the recruitment process.

Job responsibilities

The candidate will organize the flagship ATLS courses, lead faculty during courses, manage practical arrangements, support candidates, and contribute to administrative functions within the department. They will also be responsible for maintaining quality systems and prioritising workload.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for those interested in a career in Medical Education to learn from experienced faculty and develop leadership skills.
