Do you have experience in administration and looking for a role that lasts 3 months?The role is with Newport County Council? We are looking for someone to provide high quality business support, management information, and administrative functions to support the service.

Key information:

Job role - Admin Assistant

Pay rate - £14.36 per hour

Contract type - Temporary 3 months (possibly longer)

Location - Newport Council - NP19 0ES

Start date - 14th July 2025

Key responsibilities include:

  • Financial System Management: Operating and maintaining financial systems, ensuring adherence to policies and guidelines. This includes identifying and recovering overpayments and agreeing payment plans.
  • Procurement and Payments: Ensuring goods and services are acquired via agreed methods and making payments using a Newport City Council credit card according to policies.
  • Performance Information: Managing, maintaining, and verifying performance information through systems, including analysis and report production.
  • Communication and Support: Communicating with partner agencies, colleagues, and management to provide information, help, and advice. Acting as a first point of contact for teams to provide guidance and resolve queries.
  • Meeting Management: Arranging meetings, producing accurate minutes, recording decisions, and carrying out associated tasks.
  • Project Support: Supporting and assisting with service projects.

Qualifications:

  • A Level standard or equivalent, or substantial relevant administrative experience in an office environment.

Knowledge:

  • Standard computer software (word processing, spreadsheets, emails).
  • Data Protection principles.

Experience:

  • Previous administrative or financial experience in an office environment.
  • Proven experience taking minutes at meetings.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience using Microsoft Office in a business environment.
  • Experience working with finance (making payments, inputting/analysing financial information).

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to analyse and present information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills (tactful and diplomatic).
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet service demands.
