Widener University’s Dwyer School of Nursing invites applications for an adjunct Clinical Instructor for Medical-Surgical Nursing. The Adjunct Nursing Lab Instructor will teach in the undergraduate program in simulation labs with 8 students, emphasizing development of foundational skills for clinical preparation.

Adjunct Nursing Lab instructors are expected to attend all lab sessions. Labs can be scheduled day or evening, weekday or weekend.

Qualifications

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or MSN with nursing major.
• BSN acceptable if enrolled in an MSN program; degree completed within 5 years.
• Licensed RN in PA; multi-state license required if site warrants.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
• Criminal background checks and clinical requirements completed prior to start.
• Experience as a clinical instructor preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach in undergraduate program in simulation labs with 8 students.
• Develop foundational clinical skills for students.
• Attend all lab sessions and schedule labs day/evening/weekend.
• Create patient assignments prior to clinical days.
• Supervise students during care and provide feedback on assignments.
• Submit grades as directed by course coordinator and provide weekly feedback.
• Complete final clinical evaluations and plan pre/post conferences.

Job description

The Department of Nursing in the Dwyer School of Nursing at Widener University invites applications for the position of adjunct Clinical Instructor for Medical-Surgical Nursing. The Adjunct Nursing Lab Instructor will teach in the undergraduate program at Widener University in the simulation labs with 8 students with an emphasis on development of foundational skills in preparation for clinical. Adjunct Nursing lab instructors are expected to attend all lab sessions. Labs can be scheduled in the day or evening, weekday or weekend.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

• Complete facility orientation prior to the start of clinical
• Complete all clinical health requirements in Exxat
• Create patient assignments prior to the start of the clinical day
• Supervise students in all aspects of care of patients/clients
• Review and provide feedback for all written clinical assignments
• Submit grades for assignments as directed by course coordinator
• Provide weekly feedback to students in the clinical area
• Complete final clinical evaluations
• Plan instructional activities for pre/post conferences
• Communicate and issues at the clinical site with course coordinator and Director of Undergraduate Clinical Placement
• Responsible for all clinical hours assigned to the course

Secondary responsibilities:

• Write letters of recommendations as requested by students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

• Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science with a major in nursing.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing is acceptable if currently enrolled in a Master’s program. Completion of the Master’s degree is required within 5 years of hire.
• Experience in the clinical area is required.
• Licensure as a registered nurse in PA.
• Licensure in NJ or DE or a multistate license is required if appropriate for the clinical site.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the clinical area.
• Completion of criminal background checks, child abuse checks, and clinical requirements prior to starting.

Preferred:

• Experience as a clinical instructor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:

• Clinical rotations may take place during the day, evening, or weekend.
• Must be able to maintain manual dexterity, gross and fine movements including but not limited to:
• Sufficiently, safely move from room to room, and move quickly.
• Sit/stand and maintain balance, walk, climb, bend, twist, stop and squat.
• Push, pull, lift, and support at least 25 lbs. in order to position, transfer, and ambulate patients/clients.
• Move light objects up to 10 lbs. and move heavy objects weighing from 10-50 lbs.
• Pick up objects with hands, grasp small objects and pinch/pick up with fingers and twist/turn with hands.
