Working Pattern: 37 hours days

Working location: Derby

Our Submarines Business is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and through-life support of nuclear propulsion-related products in support of the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet.

The Nuclear Additive Manufacturing (AM) team was established in 2009 to support the manufacture of components for functional rig testing using Laser Powder Bed Fusion. Operations within the AM team to fulfill rig requirements is now well established on both metal and polymer systems. Development of AM has advanced rapidly into the manufacture of production components following successful qualification through the Rolls-Royce Group Procedures and demand for the technology is increasing exponentially. This has seen the capabilities in the AM facilities expanded to seven Metal AM systems, two polymer AM systems and a number of associated post-processing and inspection equipment, with plans for continued growth in the next few years. In addition to production operations, there are also a number of research and development programmes relating to AM being coordinated through the AM Team. These are focused on a variety of significant applications across Aerospace, Marine and Nuclear businesses globally.

An exciting opportunity exists for a technician to join the AM team based in Derby, reporting to the Section Leader for Producibility and Operations. You will be responsible for both development and production operations within the AM Cells. We are a self-motivated and enthusiastic team with a shared goal of delivering AM solutions for the Submarines business and beyond. The work and tasks are varied, and no two days are the same. If successful, you will have the opportunity to make an impact in a rapidly evolving and exciting technology.
