Job summary

Airbus Operations Limited in Filton, Bristol is offering an internship in Additive Manufacturing. The 12.5-month placement starts 16 August 2027, with applications closing 27 September 2026. Aimed at undergraduates, the role involves design and manufacture of metallic AM parts within Airbus AM community.

Hours are 35 per week, with flexible hours and hybrid working if role permits. The position is part of the Structure Design & Integration family, and requires security checks and potential UK

We are a highly motivated team; passionate about Additive Manufacturing (AM) and its contribution to Airbus NexGen aircraft purpose as a High Performance and Sustainable Technology. In Filton, we have Powder Bed Fusion and Direct Energy Deposition machines and experience across Design and Manufacturing Engineering and Material Science - all the ingredients needed for true co-Design for Additive Manufacturing required to meet the needs for current and future aircraft platforms. Our ambition is to disrupt the market with Optimization Driven Design and Advanced Machine Control in collaboration with strategic partners and academia.

What you will be doing

You will Design and Manufacture metallic parts using AM technology right here in Filton, with the opportunity to develop skills as part of a wider Airbus AM community. Uses-cases will include Structural Components and Systems Equipment across the Airframe and Systems Centre of Competences and may include use-cases across Airbus Group. We have ongoing projects across Series aircraft as well as Flight Test Demonstrators for future aircraft. In the past our interns have designed and manufactured key parts for aircraft programmes! The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills (technical, project management, communication etc.) in order to complete them successfully.

You will initiate and support activities within the AM department such as:

• Optimisation Driven Design
• Design for Additive Manufacturing
• Drawing creation
• Build File creation
• Printing
• Post Processing
• Test

Requirements

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Studying towards a degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering Degree

Security Clearance

You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
