Job summary

Haringey Council's Repair Service is seeking a skilled Wet Trades Operative to join our responsive repairs team. This role will be based on-site, visiting residents' homes and Council properties to deliver high-quality plastering, mould treatment, and associated trades as part of a multi-trade team.

You'll uphold the Right First Time philosophy, maintain safety standards, attend scheduled assessments to confirm trade competencies, and provide excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Experience as a multi-trade operative in building and trades.
• Hold an industry standard qualification or equivalent competency in a core trade such as roofing.
• Additional experience in at least one other trade is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out plastering works across residential and public buildings.
• Perform patch repairs, full wall skim, ceiling repairs, and external render work.
• Undertake mould treatment and mould wash per Council procedures.
• Install thermal boarding and insulation to improve energy efficiency.
• Apply skills across plumbing, painting, and tiling as part of a multi-trade team.
• Attend assessments to confirm trade competencies and maintain standards.

About The Role

Haringey's Repair Service is seeking a skilled and dedicated Wet Trades Operative to join our responsive repairs team. This team is central to delivering a high-quality, resident-focused maintenance service across the Council's housing stock, ensuring all work complies with relevant procedures, health and safety standards, and housing regulations.

Responsibilities

As a Wet Trades Operative, you'll be a vital part of our "Right First Time" approach - completing repairs efficiently and professionally to reduce disruption for residents and improve service delivery. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out a range of plastering works across residential and public buildings
• Performing patch repairs, full wall skims, ceiling repairs, decorative finishes, and external render works
• Undertaking mould treatment and mould wash works in line with Council procedures, helping to improve living conditions and support healthy homes for residents
• Installing thermal boarding and associated insulation systems to improve energy efficiency, reduce condensation, and address damp and mould-related issues
• Applying your experience across other trades such as plumbing, painting, and tiling as part of a multi-trade team
• Attending scheduled assessments and meetings to confirm and maintain trade competencies
• Upholding high standards of workmanship and delivering excellent customer service

In addition to your core skills, you may also be required to undertake tasks across other trades. You'll work collaboratively with other trades and supervisors, responding to both scheduled and emergency repair requests. As a front-line representative of Haringey Council's repair service, you'll be working directly in residents' homes and other Council properties-making a meaningful impact every day.

About You

You will be an experienced and dedicated multi-trade operative with a demonstrable background in the building and trades industry. You'll hold an industry standard qualification, or equivalent recognised competency in one core trade such as roofing and ideally, you'll also have additional experience in at least one other trade, enabling you to confidently tackle jobs requiring more than one specialism.

You're someone with a "can-do" approach to problem-solving, adept at tracing and carrying out repairs, resolving root cause issues like leaks, and seeing tasks through to completion. You'll be comfortable making urgent decisions when working independently in customers' homes. Experience of working within diverse communities is key, as well as excellent customer service, as you'll be a front-line representative of the Council.
