Job description

Job Title: Additional Needs Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children with mental, emotional, and social health challenges? If so, we want you to join an inclusive school in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, to work asan Additional Needs Teaching Assistant, starting in September 2025.

Additional Needs Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with mental, emotional, and social health concerns.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to children with diverse Special Educational Needs.
  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours.
  • Deliver intervention programmes to individuals and small groups.
  • Assessing student progress and providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Supervising students during activities, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
  • Support communication through verbal and non-verbal techniques.

Additional Needs Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Have experience working with children or young people, particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding and knowledge of social, emotional, and mental health needs..
  • Hold relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) or have transferable skills.
  • Have an understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to the welfare of children.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for a new one.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
