Job summary

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust seeks a Band 5/6 Speech and Language Therapist to deliver specialist services for adults with neurological disorders, across inpatient settings. You will support the inpatient pathway, provide FEES/videofluoroscopy competencies, and contribute to service improvement with the Clinical Team Lead.

The role includes working across six days per week, with opportunities for development, training, and involvement in multidisciplinary teams, audits, and education for

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognised training course awarding degree/diploma approved by the RCSLT and HCPC.
• Registered with the HCPC.
• Member of the RCSLT.
• Minimum of 6 months clinical experience as a Band 5 SLT.
• Experience delivering training to colleagues in health and/or other agencies.
• Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience supervising undergraduate students or support staff.
• Contribution to quality improvement projects for safe, personal and effective care.
• Knowledge of communication and swallowing difficulties and their management.
• Knowledge of Alternative and Augmentative communication systems.
• Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group.
• Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group.
• Awareness of clinical governance/audit principles.
• Awareness of confidentiality in NHS settings.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including listening and empathy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist SLT services to adults with neurological disorders in hospital settings.
• Promote understanding of clinical disorders and SLT services.
• Undertake Videofluoroscopy to indicated level of competence.
• Support the Clinical Team Lead in inpatient care pathway design and delivery.
• Lead and engage in continual service improvement projects.
• Collaborate with the community team to prevent avoidable admissions.
• Observe FEES and videofluoroscopy clinics and access assessments for caseload.
