Overview

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is seeking an Acupuncture Practitioner to join the Adult Acupuncture service at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM). The role is for 15 hours to treat adults presenting with headache and/or chronic pain as their main complaint. The closing date is 15 October 2025.

Main duties

The RLHIM is a centre for evidence-based practice, education and research, specialising in chronic and complex medical conditions. Our mission is to provide a person-centred, holistic approach, including self-care, in order to help people with chronic and complex medical conditions live well and feel better. All RLHIM services are outpatient-based and are staffed by experienced healthcare professionals.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Qualifications
  • Post-graduate training in acupuncture (minimum of BMAS Foundation course)
  • Evidence of recent CPD activity relevant to this position
  • Registration with a Regulated Professional Body (NMC, GMC or HCPC) and membership of the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS)
  • Further training (BMAS Intermediate or Diploma level or in another style of acupuncture)
Experience
  • At least one year's experience in acupuncture practice, with considerable experience treating chronic pain and/or headache.
  • Experience of MDT working with agreed/specified service requirements.
  • Experience of using patient-reported outcome measures on a regular basis.
  • Experience of managing own caseload effectively.
  • Experience of conducting risk assessment within scope of practice.
  • Previous experience regarding quality standard setting, audit and evaluation.
Skills, abilities and knowledge
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
  • Maintenance of a consistently high level of competency in conducting acupuncture
  • Ability to apply the principles of acupuncture treatment and current research evidence to the analysis of complex clinical problems in order to plan and implement an effective treatment strategy.
Audit, Quality and Research
  • Ability to critically appraise research findings and evaluate the relevance to effective acupuncture practice and routine care.
Personal Qualities
  • Experience of working with diverse communities and within a multicultural setting.
