Job description

London Salary £70,000 - £80,000

Do you have expertise in actuarial techniques and practices? Could you apply your skills in designing new tools and processes to enable an efficient and insightful actuarial team?

If so, this could be the role for you!

We have an exciting opportunity for an Actuarial Specialist to join our Automation Modelling team. This is a great role for someone to join a rapidly developing and highly regarded team with a strong track record of delivering excellent business solutions.

Aviva has introduced “smart-working” and the person in this role would ideally be based in Norwich, but could potentially be based anywhere in the UK, as long as they are comfortable traveling to our Norwich office twice a month.

A bit about the job:

The UK General Insurance (GI) Actuarial team is expanding, and new functionality is needed in their tools. This role involves liaising with the Reserving and Capital teams in the UK, Ireland, and Canada, as well as developers in the Innovation teams, to design and support the build of these tools. The scope of the team is expected to expand over the next 12 months to include other technical areas of GI Finance.

Key tasks include:

  • Understanding existing processes and spreadsheets, and identifying areas for improvement
  • Designing apps, tools, and processes to meet user needs, including creating innovative solutions for emerging requirements
  • Collaborating with coders to ensure builds meet actuarial needs
  • Training business users on new tools
  • Responding to queries from users regarding methodology and functionality
  • Providing oversight and risk assurance related to capital requirements for the Aviva model
  • Supporting good customer outcomes through all activities, acting in good faith, avoiding foreseeable harm, and helping customers achieve their financial objectives

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • A part-qualified or fully qualified actuary
  • Experience with actuarial techniques; knowledge of the reserving process is advantageous but not essential
  • A proactive problem-solver with a drive to design solutions
  • Inquisitive mindset
  • Ability to work collaboratively with business users and coders

What you’ll get for this role:

Our purpose – "with you today, for a better tomorrow" – reflects our commitment to our colleagues. We offer:

  • Salary range: £60,000 - £70,000 in the regions, £70,000 - £80,000 in London (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
  • Bonus opportunity – up to 10% of annual salary, based on performance
  • Generous pension scheme – up to 14% contribution from Aviva, depending on your contributions
  • 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, with options to buy or sell up to 5 days
  • Up to 40% discount on Aviva products and other retailer discounts
  • Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares annually via our Matching Share Plan and Share in the Success scheme
  • Supportive policies including parental and carers' leave
  • Flexible benefits including sustainability options like cycle to work
  • Opportunity to participate in Aviva Communities and use 3 paid volunteering days
  • Focus on wellbeing with various support tools
