Job summary

Mercer is seeking an Actuarial Consultant focusing on GMP equalisation and pensions. The role targets part-qualified or qualified actuaries to strengthen UK Retirement capabilities and deliver technical excellence across GMP rectification and related projects.

You will collaborate in a multidisciplinary team, review complex calculations, and mentor junior colleagues while engaging directly with clients to shape pension solutions offered by Mercer.

Qualifications

• Qualified or part-qualified actuary
• Extensive experience in actuarial technical calculations
• Strong understanding of UK Defined Benefit pension schemes and experience in benefit calculations
• Excellent analytical, numerical, and critical thinking skills, with a solid grasp of actuarial approaches for pensions
• People management skills

Responsibilities

• Collaborate and Lead: Work within a multi-disciplinary team on complex defined benefit modelling, specialising in UK pension solutions
• Quality Assurance: Check and review complex calculations, ensure clarity when communicating results
• Drive Improvement: Develop knowledge-sharing initiatives and train colleagues
• Build Relationships: Partner with internal teams to deliver seamless service across Mercer
• Support and Develop: Mentor junior colleagues and support development plans
• Client Engagement: Develop consulting skills by engaging with clients on actuarial projects
• Project Involvement: Participate in pension scheme valuations, risk assessments, and benefit design initiatives
• Team Leadership: Lead team meetings and coordinate GMP rectification and other projects
