Job summary

PKF Littlejohn is seeking a nearly qualified actuary to join its Financial Services division in Leeds. You will support external audits, reserve reviews, Solvency II guidance, and IFRS 17 transition assessments for insurance clients across the UK and Europe.

You will work with a team of actuarial and financial services experts, developing technical knowledge and contributing to thought leadership and client engagements. A strong analytical background and professional exam progress are essential.

Qualifications

  • Be committed to achieving or have recently achieved Fellowship accreditation.
  • Experience in UK general insurance reserving is necessary.
  • Experience in capital modelling and/or pricing would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-disciplinary client engagements delivering high-quality actuarial work.
  • Reserving for personal lines and Lloyds/London Market including Lloyds Statements of Actuarial Opinion and Solvency II provisions.
  • Calculate SCRs using the Standard Formula.
  • Support capital modelling, pricing, advisory, audits and due diligence.
  • Coach junior analysts and ensure technical accuracy across the team.
  • Build client relationships and collaborate with PKF network firms.
  • Contribute to knowledge resources and development of the actuarial library.
  • Support senior management in proposals and sales materials.

Our leading financial services practice supports clients across the industry, including wealth and asset management, private equity, insurance, consumer credit and payment services. We have been a trusted adviser to the UK insurance industry for over 150 years and have one of the largest and most experienced teams of insurance experts within the accountancy profession. Established initially as a Lloyds practice, our clients now span the entire insurance market - from Lloyds syndicates and managing agents to insurance companies, brokers and MGAs.

We have one of the largest financial service audit teams outside of the Big 4 with over 100 audit partners and staff dedicated to supporting the sector. We offer relevant and practical advice to guide and enable our clients to maintain rigorous controls, manage risks and achieve business growth.

We act for many platform-based businesses, including wealth, funds and investment management companies. Our clients include listed businesses and those backed by private equity.

Purpose and aim of the role

The actuarial team acts as technical experts to the Financial Services team and other PKF firms in our network. We are looking for a nearly qualified actuary with strong communication and technical skills to support our significant business growth.

You will be involved in a variety of client assignments and work closely with other experts in the division. The actuarial team's work includes external and internal audits, reserve reviews, Solvency II actuarial reporting, IFRS 17 transition assessments, capital calculations and merger and acquisition due diligence analysis. Our clients include London Market underwriters, Syndicates at Lloyds, P&I clubs, captive insurers and other insurance and reinsurance entities underwriting commercial and personal lines business based in the UK and across Europe.

You will be able to increase your actuarial technical knowledge and experience and be involved with assessing and proposing recommendations/solutions. This role will also offer the candidate the opportunity to grow and play a key part with supporting the development of the in-house team capabilities.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Managing multi-disciplinary client engagement teams to deliver high quality actuarial work as part of external audit assignments
  • Reserving for clients in personal lines as well as the Lloyds / London Market, including for Lloyds Statements of Actuarial Opinion and Solvency II Technical Provisions
  • Calculating SCRs using the Standard Formula approach
  • Other ad hoc work across reserving, capital modelling and pricing including advisory assignments, internal audits and due diligence
  • Coaching of junior analysts and performing technical accuracy checks for other team members
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with both new and existing clients as well as within PKF, including with international PKF network firms
  • Assist with developing the library of resources to support actuarial work, sharing knowledge and experience and contributing to the development of the team
  • Supporting senior management efforts to cultivate and maintain target client relationships, including assisting with proposals and the development of sales materials
  • Creation and contribution to high quality thought leadership through written publications, training events, client seminars and conferences

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Previous consulting experience is helpful but not essential
