Contract Type: Fixed Term (3 years)
Salary: Grade 8
Hours: 36 per week
About the Parks Service and Strategic Objectives
Croydon Council’s Parks Service is integral to promoting environmental sustainability, community wellbeing, and inclusive public spaces across the borough. Aligned with Croydon’s corporate commitment to regeneration and community development, the service focuses on innovative, accessible projects that connect residents to local heritage and green spaces. The “100 Years of Ashburton Park” initiative—funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund—is part of this wider strategy.
The project seeks to restore and revitalise Ashburton Park’s heritage and ecology, while deepening community engagement and creating meaningful learning experiences through cultural and environmental programming.
About the Role
The Activity Coordinator will design and deliver a wide-ranging programme of heritage and nature-themed events and activities at Ashburton Park. This includes working on initiatives such as a Women’s Celebration Project, community archaeology, and pop-up cultural food events.
The postholder will work closely with families, schools, youth groups, and community organisations to co-produce and implement inclusive and engaging activities. Reporting to the Heritage Project Manager, the Activity Coordinator will ensure that programming supports the overarching aims of the heritage project and reflects the diverse backgrounds of the surrounding community. Administrative duties, such as record-keeping and monitoring impact, are essential parts of the role to support compliance and reporting requirements.
About You
The ideal candidate will bring demonstrable experience in planning and delivering activities for families, young people, and community groups, particularly in heritage, cultural, or nature-focused settings. Strong project planning, communication, and organisational skills are essential, alongside experience in partnership building and stakeholder engagement. The successful applicant should be proficient in using IT tools, including social media and data collection software, to promote events and evaluate outcomes. An understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles is critical, and the role requires flexibility to work evenings or weekends. Awareness of Croydon’s local services or an interest in horticulture is desirable but not essential.
