Overview:
The Activity and Welfare Leader (AWL) is responsible for planning, implementing, and delivering high-quality social activities and excursions for Young Learner students at BSC Young Learners. The role involves motivating students to participate actively, ensuring their safety, and adhering to safeguarding policies. AWLs also provide welfare support, guidance, and assistance, working closely with team members to create a positive environment and attending to pastoral duties.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
House Duties & Pastoral Care:
- Responsible for student welfare and behavior standards.
- Meet students' dietary and religious needs.
- Monitor medication and assist unwell students, maintaining medical records.
- Support with laundry, liaise with housekeeping, and report disciplinary issues.
- Assist with student induction, safety, and welfare concerns.
- Supervise during meals, free time, and nights, and monitor absences.
- Maintain residence cleanliness and serve as a role model.
Activities:
- Design, organize, and run social activities and excursions.
- Support the development of activity materials and promote programs.
- Ensure safety with first aid kits, registers, and risk assessments.
- Encourage participation and inclusivity among students.
- Participate in team meetings and briefings.
Child Protection & Safeguarding:
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children.
- Follow safeguarding policies and maintain appropriate student ratios.
- Complete required safeguarding training before and during employment.
Excursions & Transfers:
- Supervise students during excursions and transfers, ensuring safety and proper procedures.
- Prepare and carry necessary documentation and equipment.
- Build rapport with students and team members.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Attend induction, team meetings, and participate positively.
- Wear designated uniform and act professionally at all times.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Required Experience & Skills:
Essential:
- Fluent or near-fluent English, experience with children/teenagers.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and flexibility.
- Right to work in the UK/EU and enhanced DBS clearance.
Desirable:
- Experience in summer/language schools, activity leadership, or relevant qualifications.
- First aid, lifeguarding, or child protection training.
